Save the Assistants: A Guide to Surviving and Thriving in the Workplace
by Lilit MarcusI was grateful to receive this book as part of a big mouth mailing - a funny story, because not three hours before this book arrived in my mailbox, I’d just found Marcus’s website, savetheassistants.com, and knew I needed to read this book. Marcus provides invaluable advice for dealing with difficult bosses and co-workers, having (or at least attempting) a life outside the office, and sharing escape strategies when there is no option left other than to get yourself out. The biggest takeaway for me, however, was the fact that I am not the only person who has been assistant, and I will not be the last. A lot of the stories/scenarios shared by Marcus were so similar to my own situation I couldn’t believe it. It’s comforting to know that being an assistant is an almost universal experience (or, at the least, a New York City experience), and that, someday, it will be something I can look back on, and be so thankful that I am out of it.
Thank you, Lilit Marcus, for writing a book that will help many people maintain their sanity until they graduate from the assistant level.
A REALLY old book review!
You are totally welcome. And thank YOU for this review, which just brightened my day.
